Ride the Rails Meeting a Big Success

The spring quarterly meeting of the K96 Corridor Development Association provided attendees with several unique opportunities.  As part of their mission to showcase the corridor region in western Sedgwick and eastern Reno counties, the organization hosted the meeting while touring the corridor aboard a passenger car on the K&O Rail line.  WATCO Companies, LLC and their WATCO Transportation Services made the trip possible.   The group boarded the train in Colwich and made the trip to Hutchinson where they were greeted by Hutchinson Mayor Cindy Proett and Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce President Jason Ball.  Along the route, the corridor communities of Maize, Colwich, Mount Hope, Haven and South Hutchinson presented information on their communities and possible industrial sites along the corridor.  An informative presentation on industrial site infrastructure costs was made by Jeff Lackey of TranSystems who also heads the regional Land-2-Sites Coalition.  WATCO representatives Linda Patterson provided valuable information on logistics and transportation services that are available through their company.  The return trip provided ample time for networking.  Over 70 people were in attendance.  In addition to the members and supporters of the organization that normally attend, the meeting drew local elected officials, members of the Kansas Legislation, a wide range of regional economic developers, representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture, Kansas Turnpike Authority, Kansas Department of Transportation and a representative from the office of Congressman Mike Pompeo.  The K96 Corridor Development Association would like to thank WATCO Companies, Black Hills Energy and Hutton Construction for their sponsorship of the event.
