This development map is not intended to reflect the exact areas of proposed development but does provide an overview of the general plan. The Maize web site, www.cityofmaize.org, has a link to the Maize comprehensive plan and also updated city maps of the area. During the past year, extensive development has occurred within and immediately surrounding the city. This development is a combination of professional, retail and residential development.
MAIZE ”WHERE COMMUNITY COUNTS” Maize is a unique, progressive city enjoying metropolitan status in a rural surrounding. It is a civic-minded community with numerous citizens who volunteer their time for an array of activities. REASONS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER MAIZE
LOCATION
Maize, a community approximately 3,000 citizens, borders the city limits of Wichita, a city of approximately 400,000 people. This location places it within minutes of all of the metropolitan services and offerings yet still being a community with a small town environment. The K-96 four lane highway has direct access to interstate highway systems serving all directions from Wichita.
QUALITY OF LIFE
The educational opportunities in the Maize community are unlimited with two high schools, middle schools and elementary schools as well as a Wichita State University satellite facility that was opened in 2007. Living in Maize offers you a variety of housing options ranging from apartment/condominium living, affordable and up scale housing that is attractive to the executive/professional level of individuals. Development continues with six developments being considered as we began 2010. Retail and consumer services are unlimited and available within the community or within a matter of five minutes from the city limits of Maize. With the large number of youth in the community, parks and recreation facilities are abundantly available for all ages. Adjoining the city of Maize on the east is a variety of medical facilities that offers services in all areas of health care. Emergency Medical Services and Fire Protection are immediately available and, for the most part, in new facilities within the past two years.
INCENTIVES AND ATMOSPHERE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT
The Maize governing body has done an excellent job of providing the management for the extremely significant development that has occurred within the past ten years. This community has expanded from an area of 1 square mile to 9 square miles during that period and is continuing to expand at a rapid rate. This expansion has been orderly and efficient due to the dedication, positive attitude, vision and excellent management of their unprecedented growth.
While the growth has been due in large part to expansion of the Wichita Metropolitan area, the need for offering incentives has not been a major item, however; Maize will be focusing their efforts on industrial development in the future. In this regard, Maize will be offering the normal incentives available to communities within Sedgwick County and the state of Kansas. Maize will also be considering a package of local incentives as their plans for industrial development moves forward. In addition, the city of Maize offers a utility incentive for both residential and business development that provides reduced water rates for a twelve month period.
OUR BUSINESSES The city of Maize has an extremely diversified business community. With the extremely rapid growth in the housing sector, the accompanying retail development has occurred in practically all areas except for an isolated few such as motels. The growth has also brought health care services and facilities and service sector companies to the area. A complete listing of businesses is available through Sedgwick County Economic Development programs.
BUSINESS, RESIDENTIAL AND INDUSTRIAL NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY
The city of Maize will be concentrating on developing a significant industrial presences in the community. This proposed industrial development area will be primarily to the west-northwest of the city adjacent to K-96 and the rail service which is adjacent to the proposed industrial development area. A plan for development of a selected area is being developed and will identify specific parcels available. At such time as this plan is complete, a detailed listing of sites, land and buildings will be place on this site.
